Trachelle C. Young, a former Genesee County Assistant Prosecutor, former City of Flint Chief Prosecuting Attorney, U.S. Army JAG Corps Veteran, and mother of three, formally announced her run for Genesee County Prosecutor Monday in Flint.
“Our Genesee County is made up of multiple unique areas, many diverse cultures and proud hardworking people. I am committed to continuing my efforts towards community equality and justice. I will continue to engage in quality collaboration to restore safe drinking water, increase safety and move our community forward with a proactive and restorative approach,” said Young.
With more than 20 years’ experience, Young has served the citizens of Flint and Genesee County as an Assistant Prosecutor for Genesee County and as the Flint City Attorney. She has demanded accountability from the responsible parties associated with the Flint Water Crisis and has been on the ground fighting and advocating for Justice in this man-made disaster since 2014.
Now she said she wants to bring her strong, innovative and progressive vision to the prosecutor’s office.
A lifelong resident of Flint, Young also served her country as a JAG officer in the U.S. Army and her three children attended Genesee County schools. This marks the first time an African-American woman has run for the prosecutorial post.
“I believe in our youth and their potential to be great, I understand sometimes they face challenges in our society and I believe that if we create more mentorship opportunities, we can work with them and influence them through increased positive youth centered programs that will elevate them to a level of excellence,” said Young.
