MEET TRACHELLE C. YOUNG

We Believe

Attorney Young is an Army Veteran who continues to serve her community by helping to make Genesee County safer for everyone who lives, works and visits here. She has over 27 years of experience, including successfully serving the great city of Flint as the Flint City Attorney.

Attorney Young has seen firsthand the lack of transparency, accountability and equity in the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office. She has called out and fought against the unfair policies of over-charging, over-incarceration and unfair plea bargaining plaguing this Prosecutor’s Office under the same leadership for the past 20 years. The bottom line is that status quo must go.

Attorney Young knows the residents of Genesee County deserve better and can she is fighting to be the agent of change. Under Attorney Young’s proven leadership, she will create a new and transparent process to keep the public and the law enforcement departments informed of her work, policies and practices so they can all operate in a complimentary fashion on a level playing field. She will provide timely responses to families, the community and law enforcement agencies to keep everyone safe and informed while bringing real justice to victims.

Attorney Young will make decisions based on relevant facts and circumstances rather than based on relationships and/or personal friendships. She will support law enforcement officers that properly perform their duties while holding officers that fail to properly perform their duties accountable where warranted.

Trachelle believes now is time for change. She knows that prosecution would only be one part of her strategy when it comes to protecting Genesee County. Under her leadership, the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office will strive to partner with law enforcement and other government agencies, schools, religious leaders, and community organizations to create, build and implement programs that will help those most at-risk of being caught up in the criminal justice system. Trachelle will implement a pre-charge diversion program to give offenders who would benefit from a second chance the opportunity to earn one. She plans to partner with community organizations to give those offenders, especially our youth, the opportunity to gain valuable life skills and the responsibility that comes from community service to invest in our community and have a better path forward than one marred by a criminal record with fines and costs that cripple many who are already financially struggling.

Trachelle is a mother of three children and has always been passionate about helping youth. She currently serves as the Executive Director of Flint Police Activies League (PAL) Corp. where the mission is to help improve the relationships between youth and law enforcement. She has previously partnered with high schools to mentor students and has a program to implement the same type of partnership with schools to educate students about dangerous decisions, the law and life paths that lead to success or trouble. Attorney Young would encourage the staff to serve as mentors in the partnership. She knows we must invest in our youth and destroy the school to prison pipeline that has been allowed to continue uninterrupted for the past 20 years under the same leadership. She also has plans to create a “Junior Prosecutor” program that will bring middle and highschool students into the prosecutor’s office to observe “justice” firsthand as a means planting seeds of future generations of attorneys and prosecutors. The experience will also serve to show there are serious consequences to a person’s actions that not only impact the person but also their family members and community in multiple ways.

Trachelle is a proud Tiger, graduating from Jackson State University, an HBCU. She’s also a proud graduate of MSU Law School- Go Green! She was born and raised in Flint and proudly rocks being a “Flintstone”! Trachelle is well aware that Genesee County has never had an elected female or minority Prosecutor. However, it’s NOT because none were qualified. Trachelle is not only well-qualified, she’s perfectly suited to lead the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office to a higher level of efficiency and produce better outcomes for a safer community. If you believe change is necessary and you understand we can’t afford four more years of the same leadership, join our team and let’s get it done.
